Day 3 in Sevilla: Barrio Santa Cruz Walk and Bullfight Museum

Right now, it is almost 6:30 and it is absolutely pouring in Sevilla. We were about to go for a walk before the flamenco show but thought better of it. Now we are sitting in the hotel lobby watching it come down. Enough about today for now, we need to blog about yesterday.

Yesterday we woke up and had breakfast as usual across the street. Since Alison's socks began to smell like death after our failed attempt to do laundry in the sink of our Barcelona hotel, she had thrown them out so we found a clothing store and she got some more. After that we took a guided walk (the guide being the Rick Steves book where he tells you where to go and the importance of everything) though the "heart" of sevilla and it's old Jewish quarter called the Barrio Santa Cruz. We did a few of his guided walks in Barcelona too which are interesting since they take you off the main tourist paths and explain the significance of things that are not nearly as obvious as the cathedral or alcazar (the palace in sevilla). We had lunch at Flahertys again.

Since one member of our party Is absolutely opposed to seeing a bullfight whereas the other member thinks it is an art form and part of Spanish culture, we comrpomised and went to visit the bullfighting museum. We got to see the arena (picture above) and some pictures and paraphanalia of bullfighting through the centuries. There were more than one stuffed heads of bulls on the walls, some with ears missing since the matadors would cut an ear off from their kill as a trophy. When a bull killed the famous matador Manolete in the '40s, they killed the bull, it's mother, and any direct relatives it had. The mother bulls head was in the museum.

As we were leaving the museum, it started raining so we came back to the hotel and napped until dinner. For dinner, we ate a delicious pizza place and ordered pasta and pizza. Alison said the pizza was the best she ever had and I might have to agree with her. We went to bed hoping the weather would be nicer the next day (today), but as you already know that didn't happen.
